Kenya - Dianne Smith, RN
Submitted by rkhotte2 on Thu, 01/14/2010 - 20:43.Dianne is an RN, living and working as a long-term missioner in Maseno, Kenya. Dianne writes: "I left my heart in... Maseno, Kenya!" It was a privilege to work with Drs. Gerry and Nan Hardison in East Africa in November and December of 2007. The Episcopal Church has commissioned me to return in the fall of 2008 for a longer-term assignment. It will be an honor to work again at Maseno Hospital, the HIV/AIDS Comprehensive Care Center, and with the mobile medical clinics and feeding programs that serve thousands of orphans in Western Province every week. "Love one another," we are so often reminded. I invite you to join me in loving service, holding hearts and hands in communion around the world. Asante sana! (Thank you very much!)

The Diocese does not have any formal programming going on at present with Zambia. However, there is a priest in Massachusetts who is from Zambia, The Rev. John Kaoma. John is interested in assisting with the facilitation of a relationship between St. Andrew’s Church in the Anglican Diocese of Luapula and a church (or churches) in our Diocese. If you are interested you can reach John at kaoma8john@yahoo.com .

While Jubilee has funded programs in Uganda, the Diocese has a limited involvement in Uganda. There is a priest in Massachusetts, from Uganda, The Rev. Christine Nakyeyunec, who is interested in assisting with the facilitation of relationships between Ugandan communities and churches in our Diocese. You can reach Christine at nakyeyunec@yahoo.com.
A recent group travelling to Uganda in June 2009 from Church of the Redeemer, Chestnut Hill, planned their trip through an Christian non-profit organization called Pilgrim-Uganda. Pilgrim-Uganda is a Christian relief organization "created in response to the tragedy of more than a million Africans who reside as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Northeast Ugandan camps as a result of war, famine, AIDS, and economic blight". See Pilgrim's website at: http://www.pilgrim-uganda.org. The team from Church of the Redeemer published an excellent blog account of their trip that can be found at: http://web.me.com/dhuntermills/Uganda_Mission/Home.html.

The diocese has had an on-going relationship with the Diocese of Tanga. There are a number of ways churches can engage with Tanzanians. The Diocese has as nursing school at the Teule Hospital, the community of Kizara is attempting to build its own hospital to address medical needs in the area, the church in Mgombezi has an orphanage that serves over 120 children, the Holy Cross Secondary School in Hegongo needs a chemistry lab and a chapel, and the Jubilee Committee is already involved with a number of AIDS related projects. To join Tanzanians in God’s mission, you can contact the Diocese at tanga@anglican.or.tz addressing your email to The Rev. Charles Mbukuzi.
