Africa

The Jubilee Ministry is the AIDS-in-Africa task force of the diocese. They are a group of individuals, clergy and lay, who come together to help repair the suffering inflicted by the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Recent Jubilee projects have been focused in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Several groups have traveled to the Diocese of Tanga, developing a particular relationship with the Diocese, Bishop Baji, the Diocesan staff, and the people within the Diocese. Funding from the Diocese of Massachusetts has included support for the purchase of mosquito netting (to fight Malaria), the purchase of an HIV/AIDS testing and counseling clinic, a number of HIV/AIDS related programs, the purchase of a tractor, the reconstruction of needed facilities, motorcycles for clergy and staff transportation and access to remote communities, and more. Churches interested in becoming involved in Tanga, Tanzania, are encouraged to be in contact with members of the Jubilee Committee as well as reviewing opportunities periodically as they appear on Diocesan web pages.

Parishes and individuals contribute to the work of the Jubilee Committee through volunteering services, making donations, raising funds for projects and programs, forming relationships with communities, and joining the Committee. More information is available on the Diocesan website at http://www.diomass.org/ and through Elisabeth Keller (eliskeller@comcast.net) or the Rev. Maggie Geller (mgeller@diomass.org), co-leaders of the Jubilee Ministry.
