Few mission volunteers would say they left New England on a spiritual journey. But many return with the recognition that their trip was something more than just service. Mission volunteers return with a renewed sense of who they are as members of the body of Christ, looking for ways to continue their relationship with new friends, and seeking ways to share their experiences with others. They often express through their experience of being with others, making new friends, addressing human needs in whatever way they feel so called to do, that they experience Christ in new ways.
Your brothers and sisters in The Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts are engaged in a wide range of mission projects throughout the world. Church mission teams travel to places around the globe to make new friends, to be a symbol of love and hope in a broken world, to help build houses, schools, churches and community centers, to provide technical assistance, micro-financing, and medical care … AIDS testing & counseling in Tanzania, a computer lab in Belize, a church floor in Ecuador, an opportunity to share stories in El Salvador, working and playing with abandoned children in Honduras, providing medical care in Haiti … living in to our baptismal covenant, trying to be the people God wants and needs us to be, by seeking new opportunities to encounter Christ.
The following are some stories shared by missioners that witness to their experiences.
